Tanzanite Color – Blue, Purple
“A Gift from Heaven” – Tanzanite is part of the zoisite mineral species is named after the country where is it mined, Tanzania. To date, this jewel has only been found in Tanzania’s northern hills.
Tanzanite is one of the most popular blue gemstones available, with hues ranging from vivid blue to lavender. Among the memorable traits of this stone is its pleochroism, or ability to show a variety of colors when viewed from different directions.
The stone has humble origins, discovered by a tailor who wasn’t sure what mineral he found. After he took it in to a gemologist for identification, the new stones found their way to the Gemological Institute of America, who pronounced the find as a previously unknown jewel.
